Aptos 6th grade student Zander Ross was recently honored for his ingenuity at the inaugural Invention Convention Globals.

Zander’s invention, the “Water Holder 2021”, took first place in the Grades 3-5 category. He has already won two prizes at the Invention Convention US Nationals last June.

Zander’s idea was to help a family member who was having trouble storing ingredients in a measuring spoon because of Parkinson’s tremors.

“My invention is a set of measuring spoons with lids so you can slide the lid to the side, remove your ingredients, put the lid back on, then pour your ingredients into your bowl,” Zander said in a post. prepare. Release.”

Zander was among 185 students from participating National Invention Convention programs in the United States, Mexico, Singapore and China who attended the event. The event that Zander won was presented Raytheon Technologies.

Happy Birthday

Roger and Norma Gintert of Santa Cruz recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. The Ginterts married in June 1949 in Sheldon, Iowa, according to the family. Roger and Norma met while in seventh grade at Sheldon when he moved with his family from the small town of Clarence.

The couple moved to Santa Cruz in April 1951.

Norma worked as a surgical nurse at the old Sisters’ Hospital (now the Dream Inn parking lot). Roger started his insurance surveying company, Gintert, Schweney and Warren in 1954. He later partnered with David Bogaard and joined David Bogaard Construction Co.

The Ginterts have two children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
