Iit-k’s “bhu-parikshak” invention hits the market | Kanpur News

Kanpur: One of the breakthrough inventions of IIT-Kanpur — “Bhu-Parikshak”, a rapid soil testing device which was released last year, has been launched in the market. The device, developed by a team led by Professor Jayant Kumar Singh from the Department of Chemical Engineering and including Pallav Prince, Ashar Ahmad, Yashasvi Khemani and Mohd Aamir Khan, is licensed to an agritech company, AgroNxt Services.
In a short time, the product was ready for use and was launched at an event on May 26 at the auditorium of Start-up Innovation and Incubation Center (SIIC) at IIT Kanpur in Noida.
This one-of-a-kind device is able to detect soil health within 90 seconds through an integrated mobile app. It would help farmers get soil health parameters from fields with recommended fertilizer rates without having to go to a lab.
The device is based on near-infrared spectroscopy technology which provides real-time soil analysis reports on smartphones with an integrated mobile application named “Bhu-Parikshak” available on Google Play Store. Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur, said, “The main objective of the ‘Bhu-Parikshak’ device is to provide relief to farmers in terms of testing the health of their soil. This task is generally very tedious for them because they have to rely on laboratories far from their homes. We are proud to share that this device will be a boon to our farmers. I commend the team led by Prof. Jayant Kumar Singh and the AgroNxt team for making the device market ready in a short time. The product launch ceremony began with the first presentation of the “Bhu-Parikshak” device, followed by an open discussion with the panelists, moderated by Hemendra Mathur, chairperson of the FICCI working groups on agricultural start-ups.
Panelists included Professor IIT Kanpur Jayant K. Singh, Inventor and Supervisor, “Bhu-Parikshak” Javed Rizvi, Director, CIFOR-ICRAF Asia Continental Program and Jitendra Saklani, Manager, Marketing Strategy and Innovation, Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited.
The main guest of the event, Prof. Ankush Sharma, co-PIC, SIIC IIT Kanpur, called the soil testing device revolutionary in the market as the existing solutions for soil testing are manual and time-consuming, whereas the current product provides true time-based soil health information in just 90 seconds.
A live demonstration of the soil testing device was performed during the event. A soil health report was also generated, easily accessible on the “Bhu-Parikshak” mobile app with a unique ID.
To improve the availability of ‘Bhu-Parikshak’ in wider markets, AgroNxt has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nova Agritech Limited and Nutrikosh India Private Limited. Rajat Vardhan, Director and Founder of AgroNxt, added that he looks forward to expanding his reach across the country. AgroNxt, an incubatee at SIIC, IIT Kanpur, is committed to providing a platform for catering products and services to Indian farmers.
